— ARTIST BIO

Wilfred Acosta, a first generation Dominican-American multi-disciplinary artist born in Lawrence, Massachusetts, a predominantly Afro-Latino gateway city. Acosta grew up in a low income household in the middle of an environment struck with social turmoil and violence; a

"Section 8 baby".

His exposure to artistic guidance was extremely limited, resulting in him teaching himself how to draw throughout the majority of his life. This resulted in his desire for independence, defying conventional artistic boundaries with his diverse repertoire. Spanning illustration, murals, graphic design, photography, music, and filmmaking, Acosta boldly embodies the ethos of a modern-day "Renaissance Man."

His artistic journey is a testament to the fusion of technical prowess and profound intention. Acosta traverses through different mediums not merely as a display of versatility but as a deliberate exploration of the human experience. Each medium serves as a unique lens through which he examines themes of identity, community, and existentialism.

Acosta's work is not confined to the realm of aesthetics; it is a manifestation of his commitment to the refinement of his craft and social/communal engagement. Rooted in his deep connection to his community, his art becomes a vehicle for dialogue, reflection, and action. Through his creative endeavors, he seeks to challenge societal norms, amplify marginalized voices, and foster meaningful connections.
